Areas of clinical expertise/research interests: Dr. Michael Petrides investigates the role of the frontal and parietal cortex in cognition. He demonstrated that lesions to the mid-dorsolateral frontal cortex disrupt particular aspects of working memory such as the capacity to monitor self-generated actions. In animal studies, Dr. Petrides has analyzed the nature of the impaired ability to monitor self-generated, intentional actions following damages to the mid-dorsolateral frontal cortex. He also studies the activity of single cells in this region to specify the neural computations that underlie monitoring within working memory.
